SETTLEMENT: Adam Almen settled a case involving claims of various claims of financial misdeeds against multiple defendants for a confidential mid-six figure sum. The defendants initially made a lowball offer, but after Adam completed discovery, they initiated settlement discussions and settled for a value that fairly approximated our client’s damages without having to go to trial.

TRIAL WIN: Charlie Alden secures a $171,000 judgment against his client’s former business partner. They started it – we counter-sued and won, proving that our client gave the other side $70,000 at a bank in Egypt, and that he would have made another $80,000 from a business he had invested in if his ownership rights had been recognized. Attorneys Charlie Alden and Adam Almen have again been selected as Minnesota Super Lawyer Rising Stars, awarded to less than 3% of Minnesota attorneys. This is Adam’s second year in a row, and Charlie’s ninth year (seventh in a row), receiving the designation.
APPELLATE WIN: Beth Barbosa obtains custody for her client and a $275,000 attorney fee award in a marital dissolution proceeding. While the other side needlessly drug out the proceedings, Beth kept her nose to the grindstone. The court ultimately not only sided with Beth and her client, but ordered the spouse on the other side to pay for her client’s attorneys fees.

The former Solicitor General of the State of Minnesota, Alan Gilbert, has joined Gilbert Alden in an Of Counsel position. Alan litigated numerous significant cases during his time at the Attorney General’s office, including the I-35W bridge collapse, Minnesota’s campaign finance and election laws, and enforcement of Minnesota’s consumer protection laws.
